# External Reviewers — Note

# External Reviewers (a note, not a role)

"External reviewer" isn't a role — it won't appear alongside the roles covered in the other guides, and there's no account behind it. It's a time-boxed access session granted to one specific person for one specific document.

Someone on your team generates a review link for a card's document and sends it to a person outside your organization (or outside that board). That person receives a link plus a separately emailed PIN. Entering the PIN opens a scoped editor for that one document only — no board membership, no login, and no visibility into anything else in the app. The session expires after 5 days, and the PIN locks after 5 incorrect attempts.

If you're looking for a way to bring in an outside collaborator, this is the mechanism — it's generated from within the document itself, not chosen from a member/role dropdown.
